10 Tips – Treating and preventing urinary tract infections in women
- Maintain good personal hygiene. After urination or bowel movements always wipe front to back to prevent the passage of bacteria from the anus to the urethra. Wash intimate area at least once a day and always before and after sexual intercourse. Do not use toilet paper or perfumed intimate powders and perfumes. Prefer shower instead of lying on the tub.
- Drink large amounts of fluids. The more fluid you drink, the more you “wash” the bacteria.
- Consume vitamin C. Eat this vitamin tablets. Vitamin C increases the acidity of urine and reduces the growth of bacteria.
- Wet whenever you feel the need. Never postpone urination. Keeping urine in the bladder over an extended period gives convenient place for bacteria breeding.
- Wet before and immediately after sexual intercourse. Always wet before and after sex to get rid of bacteria that you would enter through the urethra. Before intercourse drink a glass of water.
