One of the worst feelings in life is that when you have a cold.
Although you cannot beat the cold with medicines, you can relieve and shorten the duration of the illness with some food and drinks.
Check some of the foods that help fight colds:
1. Chicken Soup
Favorite grandmother’s cure for the common cold is chicken soup because it contains cysteine, an ingredient that is very helpful if you have cold, because chicken soup can reduce the inflammation in the lungs.
2. Yogurt
Yogurt, and other milky products are rich in zinc, a mineral that is essential for normal functioning of the immune system and fighting against diseases.
3. Citrus fruits and berries
Vitamin C does not prevent colds, but studies have shown that foods rich in this vitamin will help you return to normal within a much shorter time. It also has a mild antihistamine effect in reducing nasal symptoms.
4. Spices
Garlic, hot peppers, turmeric and other strong spices can help ease the bung up on the nasal cavity and sinuses.
5. Red meat and oysters
Red meat and oysters are excellent sources of protein, and the mineral zinc, which is essential for proper immune function.
Avoid Alcohol
When you have a cold or flu you should not drink alcohol, because alcohol like wine, beer and heavy drinks spread the blood vessels, and decreases the body’s ability to fight with infections.
