Everything you need to know about high blood pressure

REASONS FOR PRIMARY HYPERTENSION

There are a number of different factors that are intertwined in the etiology and pathogenesis of essential arterial hypertension. Most often are:

  • Increased intake of salt. Consumption of foods with increased amounts of sodium causes fluid retention, and therefore raise blood pressure.
  • Thickness. Bigger your body weight, the greater the need for blood in order to provide a sufficient amount of oxygen and nutritive substances to the tissue. Due to the increased volume of blood circulating through the blood vessels, increasing pressure occurs.
  • Genetic factor. If you have a positive family history or a member of your family suffers from high blood pressure, the risk to get arterial hypertension is higher.
  • Increased alcohol consumption. Over time, excessive drinking can damage your heart and increase blood pressure.
  • Decreased physical activity. Physical inactivity increases the risk of high blood pressure and obesity.
  • Stress. Stressful situations can lead to a temporary but dramatic increase in blood pressure. If you are in a stressful situation and try to relax using tobacco, excessive consumption of food or alcohol, it only further exacerbate the situation and negatively influence your blood pressure.
  • Age. Risk of high blood pressure increases with age.
  • Vitamin D deficiency. It has not yet been proven whether the deficit of vitamin D can lead to increases in blood pressure, but it is known that this vitamin takes part in the formation of kidney enzyme that directly affect your blood pressure.
  • Certain chronic conditions. Kidney diseases, diabetes and high cholesterol increase the risk of arterial hypertension.
